Disruption

Shiller & Company is a boutique consultancy guiding enterprises in metadata-first data strategies, governance, and sustainable data operations.

An abstract "metadata-first" concept rendered photographically: a transparent glass cube resting on a matte white pedestal, its interior filled with suspended, holographic data tables and schema diagrams glowing in soft cyan and amber hues. Each table is labeled with crisp, legible column names and data types, connected by delicate luminous lines representing relationships and governance rules. The setting is a minimalist gallery-like room with smooth concrete floors and white walls, lit by diffused overhead track lighting that casts gentle, precise shadows around the pedestal. Captured straight-on with a normal lens and sharp focus throughout, the composition centers the cube using the rule of thirds, creating a contemplative, forward-looking mood that symbolizes the core ideas from "Metadata-First: The Future of Data" in a polished, modern, photographic realism style.
A close-up view of a brushed aluminum desktop with a single, ultra-wide curved monitor displaying a richly detailed data lineage map. Color-coded lines trace from source systems through transformation layers into curated data products, overlayed on a dark, minimalist interface. Around the monitor, neatly arranged are a slim wireless keyboard, a graphite-gray notebook with embossed geometric patterns, and a finely textured graphite pen placed parallel to the notebook’s edge. Soft, indirect daylight from an unseen window illuminates the workspace, creating subtle highlights along metallic edges and a serene, focused mood. The scene is captured from a three-quarter angle with a shallow depth of field so the lineage nodes are razor sharp while the notebook and pen gradually soften, reinforcing analytical precision and metadata-first thinking in a clean, photographic style.

Our Story and Mission

We advance the practice of metadata management, helping leaders elevate data as a strategic asset and foster trust across organizations.

We’ve been doing this longer than anyone, starting in 2003 when founder Larry Shiller first had the epiphany that a metadata-driven approach offers significant advantages over traditional systems design.

After successful implementations at Marathon Asset Management, Coatue Management, and Bank of America, Shiller wrote Metadata-First: The Future of Data and now delivers custom workshops on Principles of Metadata-First Design to organizations worldwide.
